Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.3 Release Notes version 4.3.0.0 schema 736 February 17, 2011 What’s New in SiteAudit™ 4.3? SiteAudit™ 4.3 has undergone some major performance improvements in the way it collects and displays data. A few new features have been added to reduce user effort and improve data reliability. * Eliminate the need to resolve duplicate address conflicts In SiteAudit™ 4.3, new algorithms have been devised to ensure that collected data is always associated with the correct device regardless if the device changes IP address. This improves data reliability as no suspect data is ever stored in the SiteAudit database. In prior versions of SiteAudit when printers shared IP addresses, data from one device was stored with data from another device. The user was then required to resolve the duplicate addresses which would associate the data with the correct devices. Any data that was suspect was deleted. This is no longer the case. In SiteAudit™ 4.3 and later, data is always associated correctly with a device and no suspect data is stored in the database thereby eliminating the need to ever resolve addresses. This improves the user experience and data reliability. The need to resolve duplicate address conflicts has been eliminated in SiteAudit 4.3. During the database upgrade process, a final address resolution is done to ensure that all data that has been collected is associated with the correct devices. In addition, the entire counter history is rebuilt. This upgrade process can take a considerable amount of time depending on the size of the database and thus should be scheduled at an appropriate time. To upgrade your database, first install SiteAudit 4.3. You will be prompted to upgrade your database when the SiteAudit Viewer is opened. Do not close the SiteAudit Viewer during this upgrade process. It is possible that the application will indicate that it is not responding, but the SQL transactions will continue to execute and the application will eventually display a dialog when the upgrade has completed. * Move Add Change (MAC) Events Move add change events have been introduced in SiteAudit™ 4.3. This feature records events when: o A device is discovered o A device is retired or unretired o The device location, department, or IP address change MAC events provide a way for users to maintain control of their printer fleet and to be notified when changes occur in the printer environment. MAC events are recorded as soon as the monitoring service is started. Users can receive notifications for any or all of the MAC events and can view one of the seven new MAC reports provided with the Reporting Web site. For more information about Move Add Change, refer to the SiteAudit knowledgebase article at http://www.netaphor.com/Products/Support/Documentation/KB/moveaddchange.pdf Installing SiteAudit™ 4.3 * It is recommended that users backup their SiteAudit database prior to upgrading and periodically thereafter. * The files in the Samples directory are overwritten during installation. If any of these sample files have been modified and the changes should be retained, please backup the files before installation. * The reports in the \Netaphor\SiteAudit\ReportingWebSite\App_Data\MyReports folder are overwritten during installation. Please backup any files that have been modified in this folder prior to installing SiteAudit. * If upgrading from a version prior to SiteAudit™ 4.0, uninstall SiteAudit from the Add / Remove programs prior to installing SiteAudit™ 4.3. * The SiteAudit™ 4.3 installer allows users to install the Reporting Web site for accessing reports over the Web. IIS 6 or IIS 7 must be installed on the machine prior to running the installer otherwise the Reporting Web site component will be disabled. * For SiteAudit to operate, it must have access to a Microsoft SQL database. Version 4.0.0.0 Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 Release Notes version 4.0.0.10 schema 612 The reporting features in Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 have undergone major changes. Netaphor SiteAudit™ 3.x, contained approximately a dozen pre-designed reports that users could open inside the SiteAudit viewer. Additionally, there were six reports that could be scheduled for periodic archival or email delivery. In Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0, all reports are derived from one of the fourteen available views. The integrated and scheduled reports that existed in prior versions have been removed; however, all of these reports are supported using the new features available in Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0. Other new features are described below. What’s New? * Netaphor SiteAudit™ Reporting Web site. (http://www.netaphor.com/products/support/documentation/kb/ManagingRWS.pdf) SiteAudit reports can be saved and published to a Web site for preview using a Web browser. Comes with 50 sample reports. * New and enhanced views. Several new views have been added to the product and many existing views have been enhanced. This allows for the creation of many types of reports. * New scheduled reports. (http://www.netaphor.com/products/support/documentation/kb/SchedulingReports.pdf) Many new scheduled reports can be generated in SiteAudit 4.0. In addition, scheduled reports can be archived or delivered via email in new file formats: PDF, XLS, RTF, CSV, HTML, or XML. The same mechanisms exist from SiteAudit 3.x that allow users to customize XML reports however, the Windows Task Scheduler command has been greatly simplified. * Reports are customizable. (http://www.netaphor.com/products/support/documentation/kb/CustomizingViews.pdf) In Netaphor SiteAudit™ 3.x, only scheduled reports could be customized but this was complicated and required XSL stylesheets and XML filter documents to create the desired reports. In Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0, all reports can be customized easily inside the SiteAudit Viewer and there is no longer a need to create custom XSL stylesheets and XML filter documents. * Reports can be saved. A new feature previously unavailable is the ability to customize and save views and reports. Saved views or reports can be opened in the SiteAudit Viewer and edited, published to the Reporting Web site. * Recent views. A list of custom views that have been opened in SiteAudit can be opened from the File > Recent Views menu. * Improved Duplicate Address Resolution. A great deal of work has been done to ensure that data from duplicate addresses is properly preserved. * New diagnostics. Three new views have been added for diagnostic purposes. These include Discovery Progress, Unauthenticated Hosts, and Configuration Details. * Email / Export reports. Reports or views can be emailed or exported directly from the SiteAudit Viewer. Although the export feature has been present in prior version of SiteAudit, additional file formats have been added which include, XLS and RTF. All reports or views can be emailed as PDF, HTML, XML, XLS, CSV, or RTF formats. * Report layout customization In prior version of SiteAudit, users could only assign headers, footers, and other page customization via the Print Preview option. This information was lost once the Print Preview dialog was closed. In SiteAudit 4.0, a Layout dialog exists to customize any view and the data is persisted indefinitely until it is changed or the views are reset. SiteAudit 4.0 also allows users to save views and reports along with their customized layout information. These can then be opened in SiteAudit, archived, or published to the Reporting Web site. Installing Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 * It is recommended that users backup their SiteAudit database prior to upgrading and periodically thereafter. * The files in the Samples directory are overwritten during installation. If any of these sample files have been modified and the changes should be retained, please backup the files before installation. * If upgrading from a Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 BETA version, uninstall SiteAudit from the Add / Remove programs prior to installing this SiteAudit 4.0. * The Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 installer allows users to install the Reporting Web site for accessing reports over the Web. IIS 6 or IIS 7 must be installed on the machine prior to running the installer otherwise, the Reporting Web site component will be disabled. * For SiteAudit to operate, it must have access to a Microsoft SQL database. If this is the first time that SiteAudit has been installed, create a database using Microsoft SQL Management Studio prior to installing SiteAudit. To set up the database AFTER installation of SiteAudit, open the Database Configuration dialog located under the Setup menu. Select the Administrative tab and create a database for SiteAudit use. * The Reporting Web site virtual directory is installed at C:\Program Files\Netaphor\SiteAudit\ReportingWebsite by default. Administrator privileges are required to publish or view reports from the same machine. If this is not the desired behavior, install the Reporting Web site in a folder other than Program Files or folders that require administrator privileges. Licensing Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 * Users’ licenses will continue to work for the SiteAudit Viewer and monitoring . However, if the Reporting Web site is installed, a new license must be obtained in order to view and publish reports. If your service contract is current, then the license is free. Please contact Netaphor Support (support@netaphor.com) for new licenses. Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 Reporting Web Site * The Reporting Web site is a new feature available in Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0. Users can publish reports to the Web site and these reports can be opened from a Web browser in PDF, RTF, XLS, XML, CSV or HTML formats. * Includes 50 sample reports! * Reports that are filtered to include only the needed information provide the best viewing performance. The time to generate the report is optimized by : * specifying a concise time period e.g. last month or last quarter * specifying the precise department, assets, etc. * All users who access the Reporting Web site must be a member of the IIS_USR group. It is possible that users can access the site when not a member of this group but may be limited in what actions are permissible. Therefore, it is recommended to always enter users into the IIS_USR group. * The Reporting Web site virtual directory is installed at C:\Program Files\Netaphor\SiteAudit\ReportingWebsite by default. Administrator privileges are required to publish or view reports. If this is not the desired behavior, install the Reporting Web site in a folder other than Program Files or folders that require administrator privileges. If the Reporting Web site is installed into the Program Files folder, then it may be necessary to run the browser as an administrator when viewing reports. Scheduling Reports in Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 * Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 allows users to create customized reports that can be scheduled for archival or email delivery. In prior versions of SiteAudit users were able to schedule 6 different reports. However, in SiteAudit 4.0 the number of reports that can be created and scheduled is limitless. * Scheduling a report using Windows™ Task Manager has been simplified. Creating a task for a SiteAudit 3.x report often required users to specify archival and email information and other information. In SiteAudit 4.0, all of this information is contained within a view file. Therefore, it is only necessary to specify which saved view you want to schedule. * When scheduling a report from Vista or Windows 7, make sure the scheduled task is run with administrator privileges. This is required to generate and deliver the report. * Scheduled report templates are included in the Samples/en folder for users who want to continue using SiteAudit 3.x scheduled reports. The report filters are configured for English and should be modified for the appropriate language. For example, the Low Consumables template filters based on a consumable item status of “In Use”. The German equivalent is, “In Gebrauch” and can be selected from the filter editor. * The target stylesheet for XML transformation specified in the File Format Options is redirected to an English version of the stylesheet. Stylesheets for other languages are located in their respective folders under Samples. Printing Reports in Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 * Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 contains new features that allow users to customize views and reports from within the SiteAudit Viewer. In prior versions, users customized reports from the Print Preview dialog. Once the report was printed and the dialog closed, all customization information was lost. In Netaphor SiteAudit ™ 4.0, reports are customized using new dialogs located under the Reports menu item. All view customizations are automatically persisted. This saves users time when creating new reports or editing existing ones. Reports can be saved, opened, edited, printed, exported, and published to a Web site easily in SiteAudit 4.0. Known Issues in Netaphor SiteAudit™ 4.0 * It is not possible to resize columns in PDF and HTML reports, thus it is important to size columns accordingly in the view so that the column data is visible. Otherwise, the data may be truncated. Version 3.2.0.0 These are the release notes for SiteAudit ™ version 3.2.0.0 schema version 553 * Version 3.2.0.0 contains bug fixes and improvements for duplicate address resolution. * Version 3.2.00 contains enhanced support for Toshiba consumable levels, fax, and scan counts. Support for OKI Data 3800 has been added. * Last Accessed column added to all views Version 3.1.0.0 * Version 3.1.0.0 contains several performance improvements primarily in the database * Version 3.1.0.0 requires a DB upgrade. This upgrade rebuilds some parts of the print counts table and this may take some time. It is suggested that you run the upgrade of the DB schema overnight. * Information about Hewlett-Packard Large counters - In SiteAudit versions prior to 3.1, the Large counter for HP printers was populated with black and white simplex counts for A3 and Legal size papers. In version 3.1, support has been included to show Large Color and Large B/W pages for both simplex and duplex pages. The paper types supported for Large counts include: A3, B4, Legal, and Ledger (11x17). Large paper types are displayed differently in the Device Details counter tab for Hewlett-Packard devices. For example, the device details will show page counts similar to the following example for A3 paper: A3 A3 total count A3 bw A3 simplex count - black and white   A3 color A3 simplex count - color A3 bw duplex A3 duplex count - black and white A3 color duplex A3 duplex count - color For non-large paper types, the counter details show only the total paper count – not the breakdown of color/black and simplex/duplex. After upgrading an existing SiteAudit database, the B/W Large column will be populated with the same value that exists in the Large column (for HP printers).  The Color Large and Large column will be updated after data has been collected for the new objects and the views are updated. If the time-span is changed to some point prior to the upgrade, the Large column will display the data that had been collected at that time: the b/w simplex pages for A3 and Legal paper types. Version 3.0.0.0 * Version 3.0.0.0 requires a DB upgrade. This upgrade rebuilds some parts of the print counts table and this may take some time. It is suggested that you run the upgrade of the DB schema overnight. If upgrading from builds prior to schema 484, the entire print count table is rebuilt. * A new installer has been created for SiteAudit version 3.0.0.0. The installer has been localized for the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. Each installer installs the same content, so users may choose any language to install SiteAudit. Both 32-bit and 64-bit installers are available for all languages. Choose the desired installer language and select the appropriate 32 or 64 bit version for your operating system. * The new installer does not require that prior version of SiteAudit be first uninstalled. However, if you are upgrading from version 2.6.x.x or earlier, it may be necessary to re-enter credentials for the Netaphor SiteAudit Monitor service after the installation completes. It is advisable to set the monitoring service to Automatic or Manual as desired. * Version 3.0.0.0 requires the prerequisite .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1. This can be downloaded HERE (ENTER URL) if needed. Extract the content of the .zip file and double-click the setup.exe file to start the installation. If the .NET Framework v3.5 SP1 is already installed on your system, no feedback is provided. Otherwise, a graphical UI is displayed and users should follow the onscreen instructions. * Users can optionally install SQL Server 2008 Express by downloading and installing the Prerequisites with SQL Server 2008 Express, which can be downloaded HERE (ENTER URL) * SiteAudit v3.0.0.0 now contains a Samples subfolder. Sample documents are placed in their respective language folders. If scheduled reports have been created that point to stylesheets in the root installation folder, you should modify the task command to point to the stylesheet in its new location. * Version 3.0.0.0 includes Service Level Agreements (SLA). This is a new feature that allows users to associate devices with a service level agreement so that it is possible to measure response time and uptime performance. A new Service Level Agreement view has been added that includes device uptime, downtime, and the number of incidents that occur while the SLA is in effect. Custom reports can be generated by filtering the view as desired then exporting or printing it. Users can schedule an SLA report for periodic delivery via email or archival. A sample XSL stylesheet is installed with SiteAudit that allows users to generate the SLA report in HTML format. Users can create other stylesheets to produce the desired report. * Version 3.0.0.0 includes a Report Wizard that helps users construct the command necessary to schedule SiteAudit reports for periodic delivery via email or archival. Schedule reports can now be configured such that the content from a specified time span is included in the report. For instance, users can schedule a report that includes data from Last Month or Last Quarter. Each time the report is run, it will include the data collected during the specified time period. The time periods available to choose from include: All, Today, Yesterday, This week, This month, This quarter, This year, Last week, Last 2 weeks, Last month, Last quarter, Last 2 quarters, Last year, and Custom. The Custom option allows users to specify the start and end date/time. * Various bug fixes, optimizations and performance improvements have been incorporated in this release. Version 2.6.0.0 Upgrading the version: * Version 2.6.0.0 will require a DB upgrade. This upgrade rebuilds some parts of the print counts table and this may take some time. It is suggested that you run the upgrade of the DB schema overnight. If you are upgrading from version 2.3.x.x the entire print counters table is rebuilt. Please see the notes for 2.3.0.35 below. * If you are upgrading from Version 2.4.x.x you will only need to download the setup.msi file and not the setup.zip file. * Version 2.6.0.0 includes a new column on the Inventory View that shows the last time contact was made with the device. To view this column right click on any column header, select “Column Chooser” and then drag “Last Accessed” to the where you would like it to show in the column header. * Version 2.6.0.0 includes Duplicate Address Resolution. Duplicate Addresses exist for devices that have obtained addresses via DHCP which might have changed while SiteAudit has been monitoring the devices. The following procedure is suggested for resolving duplicate addresses: 1) BACKUP THE EXISTING DATABASE. The Duplicate Address Resolution tries to associate an IP address with a device MAC Address. There is a window within which it is possible that an IP address may not be definitively associated with a MAC Address. Data during this window is discarded. NOTE: Monitoring must be turned off prior to resolving duplicate address conflicts. It is recommended to run the address resolution from the machine where monitoring is installed. If running address resolution from a browser, be sure that monitoring is turned off prior to starting the resolution. 2) To use this feature Select Tools -> Resolve Duplicate Address Conflicts. This will bring up a dialog that will show a) A Migration Plan - This shows which Addresses are to be resolved and how b) Retirement Plan - This shows the list of printers that SiteAudit believes has been removed. “Retired” devices IP addresses are converted to IPv6 addresses to be able to distinguish them from non-“retired” devices. c) Discard Plan - This shows the list of printers for which data will be discarded and the time period over which this data will be discarded. d) You can save any/all of this data by Selecting the Save option e) Select Resolve Addressing Conflicts to resolve the duplicate addresses 3) If you believe there is a problem with the Address Resolution feature - contact support@netaphor.com. They will require an upload of your database and will provide ftp site credentials to you. * Version 2.6.0.0 includes French language support * Version 2.6.0.0 includes an installer that does not require you to uninstall the existing version before upgrading.
