MetaConsole:
The Future of Management Applications
On the path toward effortless management applications, MetaConsole
is the first big step since the advent of consoles like CA
Unicenter and HP OpenView, which provided a much-needed single
point of control. MetaConsole is the single solution for managing,
at the IT, infrastructure, and production levels, the large
amounts of data that your services, devices, and users share.
With MetaConsole, you can manage all your resources using
one or more of the popular management consoles, or using no
management console at all.
No other approach gives you the flexibility and scalability
of MetaConsole. MetaConsole technology enables development
of one client for multiple management consoles on multiple
operating system platforms. MetaConsole clients can even work
in an ordinary Web browser instead of a management console.
MetaConsole includes the MetaConsole
SDK which provides everything you need to create and deploy
your enterprise management application. It has built-in support
for the major enterprise management systems, SNMPv3, multi-language
capability, an alarm log and browser, and access to Netaphor's
widely used Cyberons for Java NMS API.
MetaConsole software is secure. It works on any platform
that supports Java. Its design permits tremendous code sharing
and reuse, so development of new clients is fast. It supports
multiple languages.
MetaConsole clients are already managing HP, Canon, Toshiba
and Konica printers, Cisco Systems hubs and routers, and many
other devices, from within MMC, HP OpenView, CA Unicenter,
Tivoli NetView, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator,
and small custom consoles. And much more development is in
progress. MetaConsole is clearly the future of network management.
